Professional Interests: Melissa primarily works with adults, her clinical areas of interest include supporting individuals in healing from various forms of trauma, including PTSD, CPTSD, anxiety, and depression. Supporting members of the LGBTQ+ community on a variety of issues including relationship and community challenges, and gender identity concerns in addition to educating the public on LGBTQ+ issues. And also collaborating with partnered individuals to work through challenges and connect more deeply.
Approach to Therapy: Melissa is an interning Psychotherapist dedicated to supporting those navigating trauma histories, specifically female-identifying individuals, couples seeking deeper connections, individuals exploring LGBTQ+ identities, and neurodiverse individuals seeking support. Drawing from a foundation in Motivational Interviewing, Internal Family Systems Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy, Melissa strives to create an environment for her clients that is strengths-based, holistic, and collaborative. She integrates mindfulness practices and trauma-informed approaches into her work, seeking to support clients in gaining insight, self-acceptance, and empowerment. Melissa believes in the power of radical acceptance, anti-oppressive practice, and community, with the understanding that the systemic structures that work within and on our lives are larger than our personal ability to control. As an advocate and deep believer in social justice and the power of collective freedom, Melissa seeks to support clients in the context of their lives and their lived experiences.
Selected Professional Experience: Melissa has professional experience facilitating group therapy in both inpatient and outpatient substance use settings, and has done case management and care navigation for pregnant and parenting people with substance use disorders. She has previously provided crisis management services to individuals with experiences of interpersonal partner violence. Melissa has also worked with children and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder and provided group and individual therapy to incarcerated adolescents in Washtenaw County. In her spare time, she has also been a staunch supporter of birthing peoples’ right to autonomy, volunteering in clinic escorting efforts in Michigan and Ohio.
