Professional Interests: Jonathan specializes in treating adolescents and young adults wrestling with depression, anxiety, anger, stress and trauma. Jonathan co-facilitates a psychotherapy/discussion group for young people where they explore the mental health implications of various contemporary topics. His clinical interests include LGBTQIA+ and multicultural concerns, self-esteem and identity, and relationship issues.
Approach to Therapy: Jonathan works to fortify the therapeutic relationship through use of an approachable, relatable style. He uses a strength-based perspective to meet clients where they are, and build upon the client’s inherent skills and abilities. Jonathan uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to assist the client in cognitive restructuring and the systematically dismantling cognitive distortions. Jonathan has a passion for social justice and equity, and works to better understand how systemic structures impact the mental health of the individual, especially that of members of historically oppressed populations. In addition, as a cartoonist, Jonathan likes to integrate art and creative expression into his practice.
Selected Professional Experience: Jonathan has experience as a therapist and administrator in both community mental health and private practice settings. He has previously provided group and individual therapy for incarcerated people, and family therapy for LGBTQIA+ couples in various phases of the adoption process. Jonathan also works as a therapist at The Corner Health Center in Ypsilanti.
