About Me: Hi! My name is Amrit, and I am a somatic psychotherapist informed by liberation psychologies who primarily works with QTBIPOC young adults and men of color navigating relational, systemic, and intergenerational trauma. As a therapist, I have worked in both private practice and community mental health settings, providing mental health care to children, adolescents, families, and adults across Southeast Michigan. I bring over a decade of prior experience as a Black queer feminist organizer, advocate, and educator to my work as a therapist.

I believe that individual well-being is reflected in the health of our relationships— with ourselves, family and friends, the communities to which we belong, and the increasingly intertwined broader world. As an African American and South Asian queer man with a multifaith background, however, I know firsthand how challenging it can be to access a felt sense of safety, belonging, and dignity in relationships. Trauma can force you to disown parts of yourself to fit in or over-rely on survival strategies just to get by. Through my work, I harness the human capacity for resiliency as I support clients to both appreciate their ability to survive and shift into a state of thriving.

As a therapist, I enjoy walking alongside others as they discover new meaning, excitement, and peace in a world of inexhaustible mystery, wonder, and conundrum. And, I value the small contributions I get to make with clients towards building a more beautiful world. It would be an honor to have an opportunity to partner with you as you reclaim your mental, embodied, and relational abilities, helping you respond to your experiences—rather than react—in ways that honor your deepest needs and desires.

What it’s like in a session with me: I love working with folks who long to feel safe and connected, meaningfully engaged, and joyful and at ease in their relationships. Yet beneath their dissatisfaction, they may feel anger, fear, anxiety, sadness, or even rage or helplessness—and rightly so. Often, my clients hold marginalized identities, belong to oppressed or activist communities, or carry a complex history of trauma that impacts them today. Maybe traditional talk therapy has brought them some relief in the past, but at some point…. they got stuck, like they’ve hit a plateau. Even with ambivalence or caution about therapy—whether because of political views, cultural or familial beliefs, or personal experiences—they’re willing to give something different a shot.

That’s where I come in! I work to create a safe space for my clients to slow down and reflect on their experiences, uncover meaningful insights, and embody changes that align with their values. My approach is grounded in the science of safety, the power of storytelling, and liberatory perspectives. This means I’ll support you in connecting to a felt sense of safety, exploring and re-writing your life story with curiosity, and embracing moments of freedom and resonance as they arise through the therapeutic experience. Throughout, I bring a patient, compassionate, and calming presence to our sessions together.
